CLIMATE ACTION DAYS

The NYC DOE’s Office of Energy and Sustainability has launched a unique and exciting program – Climate Action Days - dedicating four days to inspiring climate action in every school in the largest school district in the U.S. Climate Action Days provide a fun and creative learning opportunity, allowing school communities to choose or create activities that best serve their students and interests. Each day will be based on a theme that showcases the importance of climate education and sustainability practices.

RFUTURE has been invited by the NYC Department of Education to work with public high school students from the  Bronx to create four music anthems. Music and video offer unique and powerful ways of inspiring change. It allows young  creators  to artistically express their concerns and solutions to address the impact of climate change in their communities. These Climate Action Day Anthems will exist perennially in association with the annual program. The songs and music videos will be shared and distributed city-wide and across traditional and social media channels.

Music can change the world, but only if you sing out loud.
— Woody Guthrie

PROCESS

RFUTURE’s success lies in its ability to recognize that inspiration and confidence are the key ingredients in creativity. Students of all levels of ability are invited and encouraged to use their voices as instruments of change, whether it be through writing, singing, playing, filming, or simply being in collaboration with their peers. Our proven mentoring process is delivered in three days.

OUTCOMES AND IMPACT

The Anthem Project’s four master quality musical anthems and corresponding documentary music videos will be used by schools throughout New York City to support their Climate Action Days Initiatives in 2024. Likewise, they will have sustained impact through their perennial use by the DOE Office of Energy and Sustainability’s ongoing efforts to engage students as protagonists in the fight against climate change.

Additionally, the music and videos will be distributed across all partners social media channels. Student participants will also showcase their work to friends and families enabling the message to radiate virally through communities and the broader climate movement. Statistical impact will be measured by social media impressions and engagement analytics. Qualitative impact will be measured through exit interviews with participants and legacy media impressions.
